That is why we are building strategic alliances with leading growers who share our consumer-oriented vision. We do this by extending our worldwide network of the best growers and through investing in our own production in Portugal. This will enable us to supply retailers with special and tasteful varieties year-round.
Our own production in Portugal
We know Portugal offers optimal conditions for high-quality, tasty berries. In combination with our own distribution center in Spain, close to the Portuguese border, this enables us to react quickly and flexibly and maintain an optimum quality.
We see more and more demand for organic, especially in blueberries and we strongly believe this will only increase in the future. We are therefore very happy to have our own organic blueberry plantation, Mirtisul, organic berry growers in Portugal.
We expect the first arrivals organic blueberries from Spain in week 16, from Portugal in week 20.

The BBC technologies “Fill-By-Weight” (FBW) system combines speed, accuracy and versatility with intelligent traceability to maximize the potential of our packing facility. We can presort whilst performing a detailed quality check. With this machine we are allowed to fill under e-sign in any packing ranging from as small as 50 grams up to 1 kg. Reacting even more flexible to our customer's various packing demands! Shakers, punnets, topseal, lidding: you ask we deliver!
Special Fruit invests in own production
We grow organic blueberries in Portugal
In Grandola, Portugal, we have our own blueberry plantation called Mirtisul. We grow 14 hectares of organic blueberries of 5 total varieties: Sharp Blue, Misty, O’Neill, Georgia Gem, and Star.
For Special Fruit these are the first steps on the organic path. We strongly believe in the high potential of organic fruit and vegetables.
The harvest is done completely by hand, with several passes over each bunch in order to pick only those berries that are completely ripe. The fruit is placed in punnets while still in the field in order to minimize manipulation.

Shake it till you make it
At Fruit Logistica we showed our recently developed shaker for blueberries for the first time to our visitors. You loved it! And so do we. The new shaker will be available from week 15. They contain 125 or 150g blueberries. We start off with the Spanish season, from week 20 the organic blueberries from Portugal will be available.
