Turkish fig season at Special Fruit

Turkish fig season at Special Fruit

Every year we look forward to this flavorful delicacy. Figs have been a beloved fruit for centuries because of their unique taste and nutritious properties. Among the many varieties grown around the world, the Aydin and the Bursa fig from Turkey are known to be the sweetest and smoothest.

Because of weather conditions, this year's season of the Turkish fig is coming a little later than usual, although we did get a nice outlook on quality.
This week, Special Fruit starts importing the fig from the Aydin region. From week 34, the Bursa fig is expected, named after the region from which the fruit originates.  This particular variety is cherished for its excellent taste and historical background. Bursa, located in northwestern Turkey, has an optimal climate and fertile soil that together are ideal for growing figs. This cultivation began hundreds of years ago and has held an important place in the culinary and economic history of the region.

Taste and Characteristics

What makes the Bursa fig so special is its remarkably sweet and honey-like taste. The fruit is medium-sized and has a thin skin that is easy to peel, making the soft flesh easily accessible. The flesh has a juicy texture and a rich, sweet flavor that blends with a hint of nutty aroma. This makes the Bursa fig suitable both as a sophisticated snack and as a delicious addition to various dishes.
